Karak: Labyrinth is the most accessible game from the world of Karak. Players simultaneously try to find the best path through the labyrinth of Karak, and to gain the most points maximizing the completion of three objectives, randomly selected from a vast pool of objective cards.

Players must not retrace their own steps and to pass important points of interest – such as a sword to be gained – they must solve the corresponding puzzle mini-game, of which there are several different kinds in the game. And it all happens within a time limit.

Rules-wise everything is as simple as possible, and the game will include a tutorial campaign, which means you can start playing as soon as you unpack the game.

You begin by building a deck that reflects your Ranger’s interests, personal history, and personality. Then, as you explore the open world and your story takes shape, you augment your deck with improved equipment, refined skills, and the memories of your journey.

The story of Earthborne Rangers is presented as a branching narrative campaign consisting of a main storyline and a multitude of side stories. In it, you can choose to follow the critical path or to strike off on your own to discover the Valley’s many engaging characters, mysterious ruins, and beings both familiar and strange.

Each game session represents one day in the Valley, and you’ll pick up in the same location on the map where you rested the night before. Your goal is to either complete one of your available missions or to explore the open world. The session ends when you’re either forced to rest (through either fatigue or injury), or you choose to rest for the night.

An individual game session is played in rounds, and those rounds consist of turns. On your turn, you perform one action: either play a card from your hand, or choose an action from a card on the table. Each action allows you to interact thematically and narratively with the world, and each time you take an action, the world comes to life around you. Predators stalk their prey, rain pours from the sky, rocks tumble down the mountain to block your path, and much more.

The game is adventure-based, with each Adventure branching out into a number of Plots revealed depending on the players’ narrative choices. Each plot offers unique game mechanics and stories that can be found in the Book of Tales – some of them are keyed to a particular adventure, some are generic, but all enable the players to immerse themselves in the setting and make decisions that change the world around them.

Each knight (player) has 2 actions at their disposal, which basically enable them to travel around the continent in their Vehicle, explore the area for ever-dwindling Resources (Fuel, Ammo, Meds), or camp in order to repair their Gear and heal Wounds or Radiation. Each adventure additionally offers a number of unique Plot Actions that let the players affect the story and fulfill their goals.

However, the heart of the game are stories. Each playthrough is based on an adventure found in the Guide. Some of them are co-op, others competitive, others still may end with the players grouping around different factions and forced to fight their former friends. The construction of each adventure offers lots of narrative choices guaranteeing high replayability and encompasses unique setup elements so that the basic game can be prepared quickly and the players can focus on the plot, not the rules.

Inspired by one of the primal fears, it places you in an unknown location without any tangible threat except being alone in the dark with only a limited number of matches in your pocket. The only other resource is your common sense, but like the matches, it is in short supply and tends to deplete too fast.

To win, you cannot be too cautious, as all your matches will run out, and soon after, the loss of common sense will leave you stranded in the dark, and unable to move (losing the game). You must take risks and move forward until you find that last door that does not have any room behind it, leading you to freedom.

The gameplay is divided into two modes:
– Playing with a lit match, you can use your cards to perform actions (moving, exploring or searching) or use their more advanced abilities that will use up that card permanently (loss of common sense).
– Playing without a lit match is much worse, as each card played is used up permanently as you slowly lose the ability for stable thought in the dark.

It offers 5 rounds of play, and 30 new cards to explore. After purging most of your permanent cards, Ambitions offers a plethora of new ones. Each round, discover 4 new cards but destroy one of them. Many cards offer a choice between fame and production.

To play, purge ALL permanent cards. However, you may save any of them by lowering the normal purge 1 step for each card you save. The normal purge is 11, so if you save 3 cards, you will instead perform a purge 8.

It is time to leave the past behind and plan for the future. There are plenty of opportunities to choose from, and no matter what you choose, there will surely be obstacles along the way.You have already gathered all your advisors to discuss what projects to embark on for the coming decade.
